Paul Percival Harris was born on April 19, 1868. Before establishing his legal practice in Chicago in 1896, he worked in several professions. On February 23, 1905, he formed the first Rotary Club in Chicago with Silvester Schiele, Gustavus Loehr and Hiram E. Shorey. The club brought together people from different professions through friendship, tolerance and mutual helpfulness.
